She did have a gap of fifteen years between hits- when she had her final hit in 1984 which is worth noting- a cover of The Smiths great ‘Hand In Glove’ went to #27 in 1984. Shaw was kind of like Donovan- her chart success except for one hit was contained in the 1960’s. When she heard the then unknown Tom Jones demo- she dropped plans of recording it and insisted the song go to Jones. I noted this in the feature on Tom Jones- ‘It’s Not Unusual’ was written for Sandie Shaw. Shaw was also a fashion figure in the UK in the 1960’s- having her own fashion label featuring clothes, shoes and jewelry. ‘ Always Something There To Remind Me’- peaked at #52. ![]() Sandie Shaw was one of the most successful female recording artists in the UK in the 1960’s- but never was able to crack the Top 40 in the United States. She put 15 singles into the Top 40 during the 1960’s. It would be the first of three #1 hits in the UK for Shaw.
